Director, Community engagement
Sherika is the Director of Community Engagement at Virginia Community Voice, where she leads a team of people who are engaging and organizing South Richmond neighbors through the RVA Thrives program, resulting in the development of collective power and individual leadership skills for more South Richmond residents. A lifelong resident of Richmond VA, Sherika has been working in community engagement for nearly a decade. Prior to joining the Virginia Community Voice team she served for nearly 5 years as the Family Engagement Manager at Peter Paul in Church Hill in the East End of Richmond, where she grew up.
She is very passionate about equipping people and helping them to realize their unique abilities to bring positive change in the world. She leans heavily on her personal experience to inform her justice work and desire to help her community overcome barriers that threaten revitalization. She believes we all have the capacity to be leaders and participate in the revitalization of our community if given the opportunity and proper support.
In her free time, Sherika enjoys spending time with her adult daughters, who just happen to be two of her best friends, writing, watching the office and playing spades. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Christian ministry and Psychology and serves as a lay minister for her church.
