Leadership Academy Coordinator
Ramiel Martinez was born and raised in the West End of Richmond, Virginia, and carries the richness of their El Salvadoran culture as the foundation for their diverse experiences and perspectives. They have held a variety of roles, such as; student organizer, hospice intern, grief group counselor, and community engagement intern. They are driven by the potential for new possibilities despite what circumstances we live within, and they hope to be a part of creating new futures.
At Virginia Community Voice, Ramiel is the Leadership Academy Coordinator for the South Richmond Leadership Academy. Their role focuses on developing authentic relationships with Southside neighbors, while encouraging them to re-discover their inherent power and leadership skills. In supporting the program’s launch, Ramiel brings a liberatory and bicultural emphasis to their work and passions.
Ramiel holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. Outside of work, Ramiel enjoys cooking meals, playing video games, and having a daily treat.
